Its Athiradi X Mollywood Times X Kattalan Clash This May in Kerala Box Office
The Kerala box office is heading toward one of its most crowded seasons in recent years. While March and April are already packed with major releases, May is expected to bring an even bigger clash between several films led mostly by the younger generation of Malayalam actors.
March and April will see big titles like Patriot, Drishyam 3, Aadu 3 and Vaazha 2 hitting theatres. Along with them, Durandhar 2 is also scheduled to arrive during the same period, making the early summer weeks highly competitive for screens across Kerala.
The competition is expected to intensify in May as films like Athiradi, Mollywood Times and Kattalan are planning to release around the same time. Athiradi stars Tovino Thomas, Basil Joseph and Vineeth Sreenivasan and is said to be set in a college backdrop, targeting the youth audience.
Mollywood Times, directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak, features Naslen, Sangeeth Prathap and Sharafudheen. The film has created curiosity mainly because of its tagline “A Hate Letter to Cinema” and the reunion of Naslen and Sangeeth Prathap after the success of Premalu.
Kattalan, starring Antony Varghese Pepe and directed by Paul George, is another major project expected during the same window. Produced by Shareef Muhammed, the film is reportedly made on a large scale and aims to deliver a strong action thriller experience.
Another film aiming for the summer season is Pallichattambi, a period action thriller starring Tovino Thomas and Kayadu Lohar, directed by Dijo Jose Antony. Set in the 1950s, the story revolves around a mysterious man living in the hills and the events that unfold around him. The film also features Prithviraj Sukumaran in an extended cameo appearance.
With several films targeting the same holiday period, the 2026 summer season could turn into a major box office battle in Kerala. Much of the competition this time revolves around films led by younger stars, making it an interesting test of their box office pull.
