With Vishu being the major festival in Kerala, and summer vacation in Kerala and across South India, it’s a great time for Malayalam movie releases and every year one or more films turn out to be blockbusters. It’s common for families to go watch movies after the Vishu feast every year. Now, with even OTT platforms available, there are more entertainment options around, but it’s still kind of a ritual for Malayali families worldwide to watch movies on Vishu afternoon.
Over the last couple of years, Mollywood has gifted a sumptuous movie feast during this festival season. In 2024, there were 3–4 releases that became blockbusters during the Vishu season.
The ongoing war situation in the Middle East has created some uncertainty around upcoming releases. Since the region is a major overseas market for Malayalam films, any disruption there could lead to possible postponements if the situation continues.
