A Predictable Revenge Thriller
Ananthan Kaadu is a period revenge thriller set in early-1990s Thiruvananthapuram, following Thankaraj and his former criminal gang after they have settled into a peaceful life with their orchestra group. The arrival of Mani sets off a chain of events, but the largely linear screenplay offers very few surprises. Murali Gopy and Indrans deliver strong performances, while Arya has surprisingly little to do. The 1990s production design works well, especially in the climax, but the intriguing idea behind the title deserved a more compelling story. Overall, Ananthan Kaadu remains a fairly flat revenge thriller with only a few genuinely effective moments.
