Patriot is one of the most anticipated Malayalam films scheduled for release in April 2026. The film is expected to arrive in theatres on April 23, 2026, during the Vishu–summer holiday season, which is traditionally considered one of the most profitable periods for theatrical releases in Kerala.

The film has generated significant attention even before release because of its casting. Malayalam cinema’s two biggest icons, Mohanlal and Mammootty, are expected to play important roles in the film. Their presence together in a major project after a long time has naturally created strong curiosity among fans and the industry.

Patriot is directed by Mahesh Narayanan, whose previous film Take Off was both critically appreciated and commercially successful. The director is known for handling realistic and politically layered subjects, and Patriot is also said to explore a nationalistic theme.

The film is reportedly mounted on a large scale with a budget close to ₹120 crore, which is unusually high for a Malayalam production. Parts of the film have been shot in Ladakh, the United Kingdom, Azerbaijan, and Sri Lanka, indicating that the story spans multiple locations and a wider international backdrop.

The project is produced by Anto Joseph Film Company in association with Kichappus Entertainments. Producer Anto Joseph, who has frequently worked with Mammootty, had earlier produced Mahesh Narayanan’s Take Off, and the two are collaborating again on this film.

Patriot will be releasing during a very competitive festive window alongside other major Malayalam releases such as Aadu 3 and Drishyam 3. The Vishu season has traditionally been one of the most important periods for the Kerala box office. Last year, Thudarum performed exceptionally well during the same holiday season.

With several big-budget films arriving around the same time this year, it remains to be seen whether the Kerala box office has enough capacity to help all these films recover their costs. Another key factor will be screen availability, as the number of theatres each film manages to secure often plays a major role in determining its opening collections.

In recent years, box-office trends have also changed significantly, with many films earning nearly 90% of their total collections within the first two weeks of release. Because of this, the opening weekend and early theatrical run could be crucial in deciding how films like Patriot perform during the crowded Vishu season.
