Malayalam Movies Releasing in August 2026

With Onam falling on August 27 this year, August is shaping up to be one of the busiest months of 2026 for Malayalam cinema. After the relatively quiet monsoon period, theatres are expected to see stronger footfalls as schools close for the Onam holidays and family audiences return in larger numbers.

The festival season already has a packed lineup. Vismaya Mohanlal is set to make her debut with Thudakkam, while Dulquer Salmaan’s I Am Game and Prithviraj’s Khalifa 1 are among the most awaited releases of the season. Nivin Pauly’s Bethelehem Kudumba Unit is also generating considerable interest, especially with Girish A.D. associated with the project.

What makes this year’s Onam race particularly interesting is that Thudakkam, Khalifa 1 and I Am Game are all action-oriented films targeting a similar audience segment. As of now, Khalifa 1 and I Am Game are scheduled to release on August 20, setting up a direct box-office clash just a week before Onam.

If the current release plans hold, theatre owners could face a challenging task when it comes to screen allocation. With multiple big-budget star vehicles arriving within a short span, August is likely to witness one of the most competitive box-office battles Malayalam cinema has seen in recent years.
